    Camaro vs Mustang

In the world of Pony cars Mustang has outsold Camaro almost every year between 1965 and 2001. Total 1965-2001: Ford 7,899,556 Chevy 4,821,768. Yes I know nothing was built in 65or 66 but those are the entire run numbers. The 3rd Gen did outsell the Mustang almost every year. But the 4th Gen was a flop in sales. Some years Ford sold 3times as many. The funny part is there are more Camaros on the road than Mustangs.

Interesting info.. Is it possible the reason more Camaros are on the road could be owners consider them more of a daily driver versus a garage queen or are the numbers representing registered vehicles? Or another scenario is the opposite where Mustangs are used more of a daily driver so not having a long life?

I think a big part of it was the rust factor of the early Stangs. Part is just about every Fox body is now a race car takes many off the road. I also think that the overload of v6 cars made them much less apealing later on. I think the other part is Mustangs (not collector or performance (GT) is gears more to a younger crowd. Thus not living as long. Another forum had the average age of a Mustang owner @ 26 and a Camaro owner @ 35 and a Vette owner @57. I say price is a major factor.

Have to admit price is a factor.. I almost went Mustang until I found my 2010 SS at a price I could do.. I just wanted something to shake my mind loose every once in a while but the Camaro was what I always wanted so in the end couldn't do it.. Nothing against the Mustangs.. they are fun to drive. All part of the enthusiast.

One reason I dont have a 2015 Z/28 money. Then again same reason I dont have a Hellcat or a Z06. Mustang never entered my conversation. Wife now thats different.
